CBGB (which stood for Country, Bluegrass, Blues, and Other Music For Uplifting Gormandizers) was a legendary music venue in New York City, located at 315 Bowery in Manhattan's East Village. Founded by Hilly Kristal in 1973, it originally aimed to feature roots music but became the iconic "birthplace of American punk" and new wave music.
